Cops educate children on road safety
ITANAGAR, Feb 6: In a bid to create traffic awareness among the school children, the road safety cell of Police Headquarter Itanagar conducted road safety awareness campaign here today at IRBN, BHQ Jully, Itanagar. The awareness team was led by SI A.U Ansari and Constables Sorang Take, Md Sarfuddin and guided by SP Traffic Hibu Tamang. The team gave the children road safety tips such as how to walk on the road, how to board and read vehicle signals through power point presentation. District task force meeting on IPPI held
CHANGLANG, Feb 6: The meeting of the District Task Force for IPPI was held at Changlang yesterday. The meeting was chaired by Wangjen, SDO, Changlang on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner, Changlang. The meeting was attended by the members of the District Task Force for IPPI & JE Campaign.
Addressing the meeting, DRCHO Dr.Tope Yomcha, presented the global and national status of the prevalence of WPV and also highlighted the performance of the first round and last round of IPPI and informed that 99.76 % was achieved in its first round IPPI despite numerous constraints.

Union Ministers to arrive in state, PM Modi likely to be Feb 20 chief guest

ITANAGAR, Feb 6: Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development & Ganga rejuvenation Uma Bharati is arriving to the state capital on February 9. She is on an official visit to Assam and Arunachal. During her time in Itanagar, she will hold meeting with Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and are likely to discuss wide range of issues.
On the same day Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh is also going to visit state capital. He will have a review meeting with officials of agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery. Minister is also expected to review the progress of dairy schemes, ICAR institute, KVKs and agriculture culture.
Meanwhile, there is a buzz that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the statehood day celebration on February 20 at Itanagar. Even though state govt. is tight lipped about visit, sources told this daily that chances of the PM attending statehood day is bright and in all probability he will attend, provided there was no last minute hiccup. Sources further told that Chief Minister Nabam Tuki himself has personally invited PM Modi.

AAPSU for GLC Jote to be named after Jarbom Gamlin

ITANAGAR, Feb 6: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today demanded the state government to name the Government Law College (GLC) Jote after former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin. Addressing presspersons at press club here today, AAPSU president Kamta Lapung said that Late Jarbom Gamlin was not only the first AAPSU president who became Chief Minister but also was a practicing lawyer. “To honour his contributions for the state, AAPSU wants the government to name GLC after late Jarbom Gamlin”, Lapung added.
AAPSU further urged the power department to stop installing prepaid meter in the Capital Complex. “If the government has failed to stop the installing of the meters, AAPSU will launch massive democratic movement” the union threatened.

Computer sets bring smiles to school children

DIRANG, Feb 06: A total of 15 new computer sets were gifted to Ramakrishna Sarada

‘The school had been facing scarcity of fund to procure the computer sets and we are grateful to the local MLA for his good gesture’, said RSMSK secretary Mataji Anilapranaji, while also requesting the MLA to provide another 200 numbers of ceiling fans to the school building, hostel and the residential quarters.
While considering request of the Mataji, Phurpa also pledged to sanction Rs 15 lakhs from his MLALAD in the next session for construction of additional classrooms. ‘I believe charity begins at home and the RSMSK is very special to me for their selfless and noble duty of imparting low cost but excellent education to daughters of our soil’, said Phurpa amidst chorus of gratitude and cheers by smiling children of the school. Phurpa had also donated a Tata Sumo’ to RSMSK in 2011.
The only other school in the state after Ramakarishna Sarada Mission School Khonsa that caters education to only girl child, the RSMSK presently runs classes from three to six and houses around 200 boarders. ‘We are in the process of slowly upgrading the classes on yearly basis according to demands of the situation and meeting of the required infrastructure. Zoologists take interest in discovery of rare bat species in Arunachal

RUKSIN, Feb 6: The report of discovery of small sized colourful bat species at Ralung village in East Siang district recently drew special attention of the State Forest Research Institute (SFRI). SFRI will be reporting the existence of the important bat species to Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) for publication in its journal.
The Forest Zoologist of SFRI, after morphological study of the dense orange coloured winged species, has identified the Painted Bat (Kerivoula picta) and affirmed that it was a newly discovered in the fauna of Arunachal Pradesh. The discovery of the bat species has given an input to local zoologists and amateur naturalists about existence of rare bat species in Arunachal forests.
The rare bat species belongs to Chiroptera group was discovered in Rombo hillsite near Gutin Reserve Forest under Pasighat (T) forest division. Toni Pertin, a young school boy encountered with the dense small bat near a natural bamboo groove, which was caught by him and handed over to this correspondent. The bat has scarlet fur and black and orange wings and it is said to be a vesper bat in the Vespertilionidae family and Chiroptera order. The specimen was later handed over to SFRI Museum in Itanagar for further study and research communication.
Senior Forest Zoologist of State Forest Research Institute (SFRI), Dr Asham Borang,
who is enthusiastic on the discovery of the rare bat species in Arunachal forests,
said that presence of Painted Bat was not traced for first time in the state. According
to him, presence of the bat species was reported in Sikkim in Eastern Himalaya and
Orissa during 1863 and later it was reported from Lakhimpur (North-

The Civil Aviation Ministry, in a recent meeting with chief ministers of Northeastern states, has decided to set up six airports and several helipads in Arunachal Pradesh.”
Sources said growing Chinese influence has been hindering execution of several developmental projects in the region over the last few months.
At Tezu, for one, an airport engineer was allegedly put behind bars for three months on trumped up charges by local authorities and the previous contractor was roughed up, delaying construction work. Moreover, according to reports, construction equipment was not permitted to be carried to the project site. “The Tezu airport would have been commissioned by now but for protests by locals. One of the key issues on the minister’s agenda this time was to resolve problems so that work can resume at Tezu,” the official said. The minister has assured locals that wherever permissible, local labour would be engaged and local people employed at the airport. With a breakthrough achieved last week, Tezu, which is being built at a cost of Rs 80 crore, can now become operational in a year.

Dear Editor,
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to congratulate Tapang Taloh, the Minister of Education, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh for receiving positive response from the Union HRD Minister, and subsequent assurance of the Union Minister to look into the issues Mr. Taloh raised during the 52nd General Council Meeting of NCERT, New Delhi. Attending the meeting, Taloh highlighted the various issues like the inclusion of Horticulture and Agriculture, Finance and Account in the Secondary level curriculum. The most important subjects he stressed in the meeting with the Union HRD Minister were the inclusion of Tawang Monastery and other ethos of the Northeast regions in the National Curriculum. He also highlighted the need for the MHRD, NCERT and other national level organisational support in protection, preservation and promotion of endangered dialects of the Arunachal Pradesh, which later on Union HRD Minister appreciated the issues and assured for the consideration of the same in the National Education Policy (NEP) which is in pipeline, which is indeed appreciable.
The inclusion of Tawang Monastery and other historical and important places and some tourism hot spots of the Arunachal Pradesh in the National Level Curriculum is very much needed not only for the people of Arunachal Pradesh but for the people of the country as a whole.
Many times, when we go out from the Northeast, we are asked whether we are Chinese or Nepalese, even by the educated and grown up people of the mainland India. When we reply that we are neither Chinese nor Nepali but we are also Indian, and belong from Arunachal Pradesh, which is also one of the states of the Union of India, then they again ask where Arunachal Pradesh is.
In this regard, it would be relevant to mention an incident when the Map of Arunachal Pradesh was not only missing from the Indian territorial domain but mentioned as the part of Chinese territory in the 10th Standard textbook of geography of the State Board of Maharashtra. Again, in recent BJP’s Vision Document for Delhi Assembly Election referred the North Eastern People as Immigrants.
All these unacceptable incidents and insults may be because people do not know anything about our state.
Taloh’s stress of the inclusion of the Tawang Monastary and some other famous and historical places of Arunachal Pradesh in the National Level Curriculum of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus would be the best option to make the people of the entire country feel and know that Arunachal Pradesh is also one of the states of the union of India.

It is most disheartening to observe the treatment of the present BJP government meted out to the North Eastern states. BJP's Vision Document for the Delhi assembly polls stirred up a controversy by referring people from North Eastern states in the national capital as "immigrants" that too when External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was visiting China, which lays claims to Arunachal Pradesh. Was it proper for the BJP to come out with a Vision Document terming North East people "immigrants"?
